$2.1 Billion Deal: Alaafin Rejects Traditional Council Of Nigeria

Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, the Alaafin of Oyo, has disowned the Traditional Council of Nigeria (TCN), following claims that the council played a part in the $2.1 billion scandal which is currently rocking the nation.
The Alaafin disclosed this in his palace, in Oyo town, when he fielded questions from reporters at a special media parley to commemorate his 45th year coronation anniversary organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State council.
Oba Adeyemi, condemned the existence of the TCN, stating that he vehemently opposed the formation of the body when it was set up few years ago.
He added that he opposed the formation based on the potential acrimony it could breed among traditional rulers in the country as well as the illegality of such organisation.
Oba Adeyemi, who holds the position as the permanent chairman of Oyo state council of obas and chiefs, held that the traditional institution in the country could not be centralised.
The centralisation, he explained, negates the federal constitution since traditional institution is purely a state matter.
He said: “When you talk of the arms deal fund, to the best of my knowledge, none of the traditional rulers in all the 33 local government councils in the state collected from such money. We were not part of it.”
According to The Sun, the Alaafin commended the anti-graft war of President Muhammadu Buhari, and also cautioned him and the anti-graft agencies to know their limitations by doing “everything in accordance with the dictates of the constitution in order not to be seen as vindictive.”
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had listed TCN as part of those who allegedly shared from the $2.1billion meant for the procurement of arms and ammunition to prosecute the war against Boko Haram insurgency.

N5m OR NOTHING-Osun ExSpeaker's Abductors.

The family of abducted former speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly and stalwart of the All Progressives Congress, Victor Olabimtan, will be in dilemma with his abductors over the exact amount to be paid as ransom.
Abductors Of Ondo Former Speaker Insist N5m
The former lawmaker, who had spent about four days in the camp of his abductors, is expected to regain his freedom once the family and his abductors reach agreement on the amount.
The kidnappers had insisted on N5 million as ransom, while the family said that it could only afford half of the amount, N2.5 million.
The abductors, it was learnt, had reportedly told Olabimtan’s family that they had helped them enough by reducing the amount from initial N20 million to N5 million.
However, a source explained that the family is hopeful that the kidnappers might still reduce the ransom  but the family and the abductors were still negotiating as at the time of filing this report.
New Telegraph reported that Olabimtan’s wife, Rachael, expressed optimism that her husband would reunite with the family as everything according to her is in God’s control.
Commenting on the abduction of his principal, secretary of Olabimtan Organisation, Gboyeya Ajayi, said they hoped that the ex-speaker would be released soon.
Ajayi pointed out that several prayer groups had been praying for the quick release of the APC gubernatorial candidate.
Olabimtan was abducted shortly after he declared his intention to rule Ondo state and was said had been  Kidnapped on Sunday, January 10, while on his way to Abuja.

Judge Orders Arrest Of Tompolo

Reports just reaching us indicate that Judge Ibrahim Buba orders the arrest of a former Niger Delta militant leader, Chief Government Oweize Ekpemupolo (popularly known as Tompolo).
The Federal High Court in Lagos ordered Tompolo to appear before it today to face a 40-count charge of alleged N13bn fraud levelled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
However, as former Niger Delta warlord has shunned the order of the court to unconditionally appear today, the judge issued a bench warrant on Tompolo and ordered the police to produce him in court by all means.
Justice Buba also granted leave to the EFCC to serve Tompolo the summons and charge number FHC/L/553/2015 through substituted mean, by “affixing same on the conspicuous part of his known address situated at 1 Chief Agbanu DDPA Extension Warri, Dalton State”.
The judge issued the summons following an application filed by the EFCC through its lawyer, Rotimi Oyedipo, alleging that they not been able to serve his with a copy of the charge.
All his co-accused, including a former director-general of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Patrick Akpobolokemi, were present in court.
Tompolo is being arraigned in connection with a multi-billion naira fraud involving a land deal with the Federal government.
The anti-graft commission also stated that they were forced to secure a court order because Tompolo has continuously evaded their efforts to speak to him about his involvement in these allegations.
However, former Niger Delta militant leader has said that he didn’t receive any summons.
Tompolo insisted that the land sale was transparently done and that any question for clarification should be directed to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Seven Feared Dead Following Multiple Bomb Blasts In Jakarta,Indonesia.

About seven blasts and multiple gunfights has hit the Indonesian capital Jakarta on Thursday, January 14,  including one outside the United Nations building in the centre of the capital, leaving at least seven people dead.
Indonesia police swinging into action after the attackers opened fire.
Jakarta police spokesman Colonel Muhammad Iqbal said seven people including four attackers were killed, adding that the gun battle took place in a cinema housed in the same building as the Starbucks.
According to the local Metro TV, 14 gunmen were involved in the attack, which started around 10.30am local time.
There were reports that as many as six attackers remained inside. With an active fight ensuing, it was unclear if subsequent blasts originated from the attackers or police.
Jakarta 4 The Guardian reports that Risky Julianti, 25, a sales promoter at the Sarinah Mall, said she heard at least five more blasts and saw three people dead.
Julianti who had just arrived at work and was changing into her uniform when the first explosion went off, said: “The building was shaking heavily when the blast happened. An office boy shouted ‘bomb, bomb’ and we quickly ran out to a church nearby,” she told the Guardian.
“I was very panicked and I was crying. We heard the blasts as we were running to the church.”
A UN regional representative, Jeremy Douglas, said that he was getting out of his car by the UN office when a “massive bomb” detonated.
“Chaos & we’re going into lock-down,” he said on Twitter. “Apparent suicide bomber literally 100m from the office and my hotel. Now gunfire,” adding that he heard six explosions and an ensuing gunfight between police and the attackers.
An unknown number of people were injured following the attack at Sarinah shopping complex on Thamrin street in the centre of Jakarta.
At least four of the gunmen were among the dead and at least one policeman was killed.
A Dutch national, who was working for the United Nations, was severely injured, Dutch media reported. Earlier reports said the man had died in the attack.
All six blasts occurred about 50 metres apart in the central business district, which also houses a United Nations office.

The Indonesian President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, has ordered security forces to hunt down the perpetrators and their network behind the attacks in Jakarta.
Widodo who is on a working visit in West Java town of Cirebon, said: “I have received reports some time ago about the explosion in Thamrin street Jakarta. We express condolence to those who became victims, but we all also condemn the attack that caused restless among the community.”
He said he had ordered the national police chief and the minister for political and security affairs to hunt down and capture the perpetrators and those in their network. Jokowi said he was cutting short his visit and returning to the capital.
In a television statement, the president said: “This act is clearly aimed at disturbing public order and spreading terror among people”
Meanwhile, Indonesia police have said that the threat is over and the area which was under attack has been secured. Five assailants confirmed dead, AP reports.
Al Jazeera reports that the attacks come two days after jailed Islamic leader Abu Bakar Bashir appealed to a court to have his conviction for funding a “terrorist training camp” overturned.
The 77-year-old leader of the Jemaah Islamiyah network filed a judicial review of his 2011 conviction, when he was sentenced to 15 years in jail for setting up the camp in Aceh province. A higher court later cut the sentence to nine years.
It is estimated that 500 to 700 Indonesians have joined the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria and the government has expressed concern their return home could spark attacks. Separatist groups also operate in the country.

Man Arrested After Killing Wife And Unborn Child

A suspect, Edet Asuquo, has revealed how he killed a pregnant woman for the purpose of using her foetus for rituals in Akwa Ibom state.
New Telegraph reports that the suspected assassin, who made the chilling confession at the Akwa Ibom state Police Command Headquarters, yesterday, January 13, said he was hired by a chief in Ikot Itu village.
Edet Asuquo
The pregnant woman, whose name is yet to be ascertained, hailed from Ogoja in Cross River State and was described a very good ‘customer’ of her killer. Asuquo was arrested by the police on Monday, January 11, through the combined efforts of his brother and sister (names withheld) who reported the act to the police. It was gathered that the body of the deceased was found by the police at a nearby plantain farm.
Asuquo had lured the pregnant woman to the market to buy oysters and later took her home to get more of the oysters but instead murdered her and hid the body with the hope of removing the foetus for ritual. Nwawe said the suspect’s sister, who witnessed the act reported to her elder brother, who later alerted the police.
Edet Asuquo
Asuquo, according to Police PRO, Cordelia Nwawe, was contracted by a chief in his village (name withheld) now at large, to kill the pregnant woman in order to remove her foetus for ritual. Nwawe explained that the suspect with four others, now at large, were each promised to be paid N50,000 by the chief for them to provide him with a foetus for ritual to enable him to win election into the village council.
Nwawe who warned residents of the state to always inform those living with them of their whereabouts, said the suspect would soon be charged to court while investigations continued into the whereabouts of the other suspects.
Asuquo said: “What brought me to the police station is because of the job given to us by the man (name withheld) who promised to pay five of us to kill a pregnant woman so that her head and her unborn child would be removed and used for charm in order that the new council chairman would not be appointed.
“He said that after we have carried out the job, he would give N50,000 each. He did not give us any advance payment. After we had done the job, my brother became angry. He said that was not the kind of job I should have got myself involved in. He called my other elder brother and reported the matter to him and they alerted the police.”

Senatorial Ticket: Oyegun, Others Shun Ekwunife At APC National Secretariat

Senator Uche Ekwunife’s controvercial journey to the All Progressives Congress (APC) might suddenly hit the rock, as the national chairman of the APC, Odiegie-John Oyegun and other members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) on Tuesday, shunned the former PDP senator at the national Secretariat of the party in Abuja.

Ekwunife who formally announced her defection to APC at the weekend from the People Democratic Party (PDP), made a surprise appearance at the national Secretariat of APC at about 1pm in a Mercedeze Viano black colour, with registration number BWR 180 RP was seen moving from one office to the other without any of the party officials attending to the new member.

Dependable sources at the party House told newsmen that the national chairman of APC was not billed to see the former senator.

One of the sources said that the former senator was at the party Secretariat to lobby the party leaders for her to secure Anambra senatorial ticket without going through the primary.

When newsmen approached the stranded defector to clarify some issues regarding her defection she simply look the other way and said she was not in the mood to talk.

Ekwunife at the weekend revealed that she joined the APC because the PDP was no longer interested in winning the Anambra Central senatorial election which is expected to hold in March.

She said part of her reason was to ensure that her people are well and equitably represented and have a voice in the national government.

Reacting to the development, Minister for Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, had however said that the former PDP senator will not be given an automatic ticket to contest for the Anambra Central Senatorial election in March, 2016.

PDP Disowns Jalo, Denies Asking Jonathan To Speak On Arms Deal

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Acting National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus has distanced the opposition party from the statement asking former President Goodluck Jonathan to open up on the $2.1 billion arms scandal.

DAILY POST reports that about 12 prominent chieftains, including a former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, are currently in the EFCC net for their involvement in the sharing of the money meant for arms procurement under the Jonathan administration.

The party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Abdullahi Jalo, had at a recent press briefing, called on Jonathan to respond to the claims by Dasuki that the money was shared on the directives of the former President.

However, Secondus said Jalo spoke for himself and that his views did not represent the position of the PDP leadership.

“Let me make it clear to you that Jalo was only expressing his personal opinion because his views did not represent the position of the party.

“There was no time we discussed at the National Executive Committee (NEC) that Jonathan should speak on the arms deal scandal. There was no time such a thing came up at the NEC. So, Jalo must be expressing his personal opinion,” the party acting chairman said.

He decried the continued detention of the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh and other party chieftains by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

He also denied reports of his removal as the party’s Acting National Chairman, saying the PDP constitution recognised his present position in the absence of a substantive chair.

The Truth About The Demolition Of Owonifari Market At Oshodi Lagos - Joe Igbokwe

"The bible says,"you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free." I have heard a lot of outpouring of emotions about the demolition of OSHODI Market by the LAGOS State Government led by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode last week. I heard Ohaneze, l heard CD South East, and l heard some Igbo groups in Lagos.

The summary is that Gov Ambode has declared war on Igbo Traders in Lagos because they did not vote for him in the last elections. Now the truth must be told: Former Governor Babatunde Fashola had planned to evacuate that market right inside the Oshodi Roundabout loop since 2007 when he came into office. The location of that market was not only an eyesore, but mindsore, mouthsore and headsore. An expert Engineer Eke, the new Controller of Works in Lagos tells me that Loops/cloverleaf are meant for drainage basins for the road and should be a green area not market. A committee was set up to plan a relocation. I was in that committee and Mr. Ben Akabueze was also in that committee. We held several meetings at Oshodi Isolo Local Govt with the market leaders. A lot of politics, mistrust, blackmail and ethnicity played itself out on where to take the market to. Govenor Fashola stopped the committee and forged ahead to secure a place at ISOPAKODOWO Market now called OSHODI Resettlement Market.

This new market has been there for years and these traders refused to relocate. Fashola left office without moving the market even though he cleared the bigger problem and the bigger mess called Oshodi. But the plan to relocate the market has been in the front burner. Ambode moved in last week to do the needful when all the avenues of dialogue which have been going on in the last 8 years failed to yield positve results.

A similar case happened in Berger Auto dealers Market. For 8 years Governor Fashola also tried to move that market to Mowo near Badagry but the traders resisted it with every energy at their disposal. At a time an Igbo Patriot Engineer Mgbemena, a former Federal Cotroller of Works in Lagos offered to help broker the deal . Everything was going fine until one of the dealers headed to Court to secure an injunction to stop the relocation. Out of annoyance Governor Fashola said he will wait for the courts to decide knowing fully well that Berger Auto Market remains a bad advertisement on the way we do business . Businesses like that are not done on the highways anywhere in the world. I was in a meeting where Engr. Mgbemena was apologizing to the governor for the misconduct of the Autor dealers in resisting change in a dynamic society like Lagos. He asked the Governor to give him another chance but did he succeed ? The rest is now history.

Now enter Ladipo Market in Mushin Local Government area and the leadership of Ladipo Market Traders Association have agreed few years back to rebuild the market. They agreed they will do it in batches to minimize loses. A date was set aside for the construction to start but the traders were not ready to move. On a certain day the Contractor who incidentally is an Igbo young man moved in with his equipment and hell was le loose. He was losing money on borrowed funds. Ohaneze Ndigbo Lagos went to town to address a press conference that Igbo Traders are being intimidated by the government of Lagos State as a result of fallout of 2015 elections. Before you know it other Igbo groups went to town with their defeatist attitude. Myself and other members of The Igbo Conscience ( TIC) called a meeting with all the stakeholders. All the leaders of the Markets were there including the leadership of the Mushin LGA Led by the Executive Secretary and the Contractors. After weeks of high level engagements we set October 1st as the D day. The rest is now history. Go to Ladipo Market and see the modern Market standing like colossus with all the trappings of good thinking and good result. Commonsense, even though it is not common, worked. Intervention worked. Sound reasoning worked. Spirit of give and take worked.

Now our people must hear this: Lagos State government I know is working hard to change the face of Lagos and we must not resist change because the change is for the good of all and sundry. We must be wise enough to know when to shift ground for the good of the commonwealth. Defeatist attitude and persecution complex is not the way to go at a time like this. Igbo leaders in Lagos must help our traders to respect constituted authority in their own interest . I have lived in Lagos for close to 35 years and I serve the Lagos State Government . I know enough to realize that our people must change their attitude to live in peace with other Nigerians. I rest my case."

So singer Tekno was in Tanzania and he took a picture with a beautiful Tanzanian video vixen and fans started commenting RIP on the picture while some were writing in swahili which he did not understand.

He had to get a translator to translate it for him, it was discovered that anybody that dates the girl always ended up dying mysteriously, fans already decided that Tekno too was in for it so his days are numbered.

The Duro crooner took to his Instagram page this morning to delete all his photos, videos, unfollow everybody and posted the statement above using the ''F'' word in it.

It seems the new trend now is for celebs to use the ''F'' word and come back apologizing.

After a long drawn media battle, families of Afro hip-hop singer, David Adeleke (aka Davido) and his Baby mama, Sophia Momodu, have finally signed a peace agreement.

“What will Dele Momodu blackmail Davido for; money, position or what?” he queried.

How Petroleum Products Are Smuggled From Naija Into Cameroon Through Mambilla

This is interesting. Yunusa Hanidu shared these photos on Facebook alleging that petroleum is being diverted into Cameroon through Mambilla border.
Mambilla is between Taraba State and Cameroon.
Below is what he wrote:
“This is how petroleum is diverted into cameroon from mambilla border.
Our customs and other security agents are just there to collect bribe from these dealers and things like this to be happening. This thing has to be stopped.
This is what make the product to be sold here at #220 per litre. This is because they make much money to sell it in cameroon than in Nigeria. And the people are paying the prices of all these rubbish”

Anenih Lied, I Didn’t Receive Up To N63m From Him- Yakassai

A former Presidential Liaison Officer to ex-President Shehu Sagari, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai, has denied receiving N63million from Chief Tony Anenih as the latter alleged in a letter to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Yakassai said this in a telephone interview with our Correspondent on Wednesday. The elder statesman was reacting to news reports that he collected the said sum from Chief Tony Anenih.
He explained that while it was true that he received an amount of money from the former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Board of Trustees, for an assignment, the money was not up to the amount quoted.

Pressed to say how much he received, Yakassai said he was not at liberty to say because the matter is in court and that it is when they both go to court that each party will tender evidence to back up his claim.

Yakassai said, “The amount being bandied about is not what was given to me. It is true Chief Anenih gave the committee of eminent persons which I headed some funds for our assignment, the money being quoted is not what we received.

“The committee of nine persons which I led was given an assignment to reach out to traditional rulers on the need for them to ensure peaceful elections in their domains because there was tension in prior to the 2015 general elections.

“We went round 18 states and Abuja where we met two in each of the states we visited, we started with the Sultan of Sokoto, we could not meet with traditional rulers in Gombe because on the day of our visit, Boko Haram attacked the town and there were reports that they were targeting the Government House where we were at that time.”

Asked whether the committee gave money to any of the traditional rulers, Yakasai said, “No. We were not given any money to give any of them and we did not give them any money.

“The money the committee received was for logistics such as transport and accommodation. We wrote a report after our assignment which started on January 14 and ended on February 15, 2015, the records are there.”

The elder statesman said he was prepared to defend the activities of the committee when required to do so because the committee performed its assignment creditably and transparently.

The former cultists, who are artisans, were arrested by the police over their involvement in cult activities.

However, after investigation and intervention of some personalities in the state, the cultists were considered for amnesty and they resolved to publicly renouncing their membership.

They respectively took oaths with either the Holy Bible or the Holy Koran.

The Islamic cleric who was the oldest among in the group, said he had seen reasons to quit the occult.

He assured that he would not renege on his pledge.

The commissioner of police, Abdulmajid Ali, in his speech, said the event was historic, adding that all the renounced cultists had been granted amnesty.

Mr. Ali used the opportunity to call on other cultists still in the hiding in any part of the state, to be bold enough to renounce their membership to save them from prosecution.
