FG threatens to revoke licences of oil companies over unfair staff treatment

Chris Ngige, minister of labour and employment, says the federal government will revoke the operational licences of companies who do not treat their staff well.
Speaking on Wednesday at an interactive session with the newly appointed executives of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), Ngige said the ministry is working on a reform for the process of granting and renewing recruiters licence to labour contractors.
“I thank you for taking interest in job creation in the oil and gas sector and for observing some lapses on the part of labour contractors licensed by the ministry,” he said.

Civil servants’ salaries at risk as FAAC suspends meetings indefinitely

The salaries of civil servants in states across the federation might be affected as members of the federation accounts allocation committee (FAAC) have agreed to suspend meetings indefinitely.
Mahmood Yunusa, the chairman, commissioners of finance forum, said the meetings will not hold until an effective revenue collection process is implemented.
He said that the committee is tired of battling with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) over oil revenue collections.

Bakare and Adeosun, who are from Ogun state, walked into the president’s office around 2:30pm.
The reason for the meeting is not known.

The National Assemble has been enjoined to as a matter of urgency empower the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) to go after recalcitrant obligors.

Sen. Rafiu Adebayo Ibrahim, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, made the plea on Thursday in Lagos.

Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu, said this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
“As President (Muhammadu) Buhari indicated lately, there is evidence of involvement of some politicians using criminals to perpetuate the killings,” the statement said.

A man believed to be in his early 20s Wednesday afternoon, set himself ablaze in the Omole Phase 1 area of Ojodu, Lagos.

The man, whose identity has not be confirmed, was said to had armed himself with a gallon of petrol and lighter and started narrating how Nigerians were going through hardship.

A witness, Ben Chinedu, told Daily Sun that: “I was Gate when I saw a crowd and I stopped to make enquiries. I saw a young man in his 20s; he was armed with a gallon of fuel.

Weakened 3-storey building collapses in Ibadan; two persons injured (Photos)

A collapsed building at Yemetu area in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, left two persons with serious injuries after the unfortunate incident. According to Abiodun Adewole, the weakened and dilapidated 3-storey building collapsed not before the occupants had escaped but two were not so lucky to have been caught in the tragedy.

The renewed cult clash has sparked fear and unrest among residents in Rivers state. According to reports, two men were killed and beheaded by cult group in Ubima community in Ikwerre local government area of the state ( the country home of Minister of Transport, Rt. Hon Rotimi Amaechi).

The shocking incident reportedly happened on Sunday night and till now, no one has been arrested in connection with the gruesome killings.

Saraki victorious as Supreme Court frees him of false assets declaration at CCT

The Supreme Court on Friday set free the Senate President, Bukola Saraki of charges in the case of false assets declaration at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT.
The apex court upheld Saraki’s appeal and discharged him of the remaining three charges against him.
The court upheld the appeal in a lead judgment delivered by Justice Centus Nweze.
Umar Danladi-led CCT had in June 2017, terminated the trial and dismissed the entire 18 counts charges preferred against Saraki.

Senate once again summons police IG, Ibrahim Idris over recent killings



The Senate Committee on Police Affairs has summoned the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris, over the Monday killing of seven police officers in Abuja.
Abu Ibrahim, the Chairman of the Committee made the disclosure on the floor of the Senate today after the Senate President Bukola Saraki, asked that the matter be investigated. Saraki lamented over the death of the security officers while contributing to a point of order earlier raised by Mao Ohabunwa on the armed police and army roadblocks along South-Eastern roads.

Members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the north have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to bring an end to the killings across the country.
The association made the call when its leaders in 19 Northern states and Abuja met with the president at the State House on Thursday.
