Lagos to get world class convention centre - Ambode

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Monday said his administration has commenced the process of developing a top class International Convention Centre that would boost trade and investments, just as he reiterated his unwavering commitment to ensuring the ease of doing business in the State.

Governor Ambode, who spoke at the Lagos House, Ikeja when he received a delegation from the Lagos Chambers of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) led by the President, Chief Dr. (Mrs) Nike Akande, disclosed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to construct the Convention Centre has already been signed.
Governor Ambode said the Convention Centre, which would be constructed in the Victoria Island area of the State on 30, 000 square meters space, upon completion, would be of international standard and it would compete favorably with best convention and exhibition centres across the world.
While emphasizing the importance of organizations such as LCCI in growing the economy, Governor Ambode commended the leadership of the organization for partnering with the State to develop the economy, especially ensuring businesses and investments continue to thrive.
He added that the LCCI remained a veritable instrument to reach out to investors and the private sector, assuring that his government would continue to partner with the organization in the best interest of the people.
He said: "We will continue to be partners in progress and I believe strongly in improving on the ease of doing business and like we have always tried to reiterate, our administration is actually built on a tripod. First is security and we believe that if we are able to secure the lives and property of our people, we will create an atmosphere that we can actually now create job opportunities that we allow investors to come in and those local investors too.
"By so doing, we are creating jobs for our people and in creating that template and that platform, we believe strongly that our revenue will grow and in growing the revenue, we will now use it to provide infrastructure for our people and that is the platform upon which this administration is built," Governor Ambode said.
He also said his administration is unequivocally committed to give good governance and accountability to the people, as well as allow a better platform for the private sector and businesses to thrive.
Earlier, Akande said her delegation was at the Lagos House on a courtesy visit to the Governor as part of activities to further improve on the relationship which had always existed between the State Government and the LCCI.
She commended Governor Ambode for his numerous achievements just within one year in office, saying the State was witnessing a gradual but steady rebranding for better under the Governor.
Akande, a two-term Minister of the Federal Republic, alluded to the massive donation of equipment  to security agencies, the numerous road construction and rehabilitation across the State, effective traffic and environmental management, power sector development, Light Up Lagos Project, creation of Office of Oversees Affairs and Investment, N25 billion Employment Trust Fund (ETF), among other giant strides of the Governor, saying all the initiatives were important enablers for the private sector.
"We like to commend your administration for the tremendous achievements in the last one year and it is a reflection of the clarity of vision and focus. It also demonstrates an exemplary commitment to the ideals of service. Evidently, governance in Lagos State has gained momentum in the last one year despite the downturn in the economy.
"The Governor has not only sustained the good legacies of his predecessors but he has created a new development trajectory for Lagos State. Governor Ambode's disposition is calm and amiable; his style is effective and his approach is inclusive, while his strategy is result-oriented," Akande said.

Afenifere Demands Immediate Release Of Fani-kayode

Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, on Monday, demanded immediate release of former Minister of Aviation, Mr Femi Fani-Kayode, who it said would be clocking his five weeks in the Economic and Financial Crimes and other Related Offences Commission (EFCC) cell, on Wednesday.
Fani-Kayode, who was Director of Media and Publicity of the Jonathan/Sambo Campaign organisation for the 2015 Presidential Election, was accused by EFCC of collecting campaign funds running into millions, for which the agency has obtained court order to detain him in its cell.
The group made this call in a release issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Yinka Odumakin, saying it was making the demand because it heard that EFCC was planning to get another detention order to ensure that Fani-Kayode was made to remain in detention.
“Afenifere demands immediate release of Femi Fani-Kayode who will be clocking five weeks in EFCC cell on Wednesday. We are being told that EFCC is planning to get another detention order to continue his incarceration,” the statement said.
The group, while expressing concern about the continued detention of the former minister, said, “We are at a loss as to why EFCC announced to the whole world that he committed a crime by collecting campaign fund and holds him for five weeks without charging him to court.
“It is in the same country that EFCC accused one Jafaru Isa of collecting money for election and allowed him to go after a night in EFCC cell.
“Why is Fani-kayode situation different if indeed it is all about corruption and not a ploy to keep him out of circulation for his critical views, especially on the criminalities of the Fulani herdsmen,” it added.
It, therefore, demanded that Fani-Kayode be charged to court immediately or set free if there was no charge against him.
“We demand that he be charged to court immediately or set free if there is no charge against him,” the group said.

We Have Kept Our Promise Of Creating Jobs For Nigerians – Lai Mohammed

The Federal Government has said that it has kept its words by commencing job creation across the country in fulfillment of its campaign promises.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, stated this in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Monday at the South-South Town Hall Meeting organised by his ministry.

He said that construction and ancillary workers have started returning to work in droves as contractors are mobilized back to the various road construction projects across the country.

Alhaji Mohammed listed some of the road construction works that have resumed as: Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Bode Sadu-Jebba road, Abuja-Lokoja road, Kano-Maiduguri road and the Loko and Oweto bridge linking Nasarawa to Benue.

He said work would soon start on the 2nd Niger Bridge which, he said, is in this year’s budget, adding: ”As more and more road construction works resume in the days ahead, thousands of Nigerians will also be returning to work.”

The Minister also said the recruitment of 500,000 teachers had commenced through the online portal ‘npower.gov.ng’, while listing other direct job creation and training schemes that are ongoing now as the N-Power Knowledge, which is training 25,000 Nigerians in technology, and N-Power Build, which is training another 75,000 Nigerians in building services.
According to him, the Federal Government is exploring the agricultural sector for massive job creation through the repositioning of the River Basin Development Authorities.

“Still talking about jobs, an agreement has been signed to reposition the River Basin Development Authorities within the next 18-24 months. The agreement between the River Basin Development Authorities and the Songhai Farms of Benin Republic includes the training of unemployed youths in integrated farm practice. This programme is complimentary to the upcoming Youth Agriculture Empowerment Programme being planned by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development,” Alhaji Mohammed said.

Angry woman allegedly stabs her husband 3 times in the stomach on their wedding anniversary (photo)

The lady (pictured) allegedly stabbed her husband three times in his stomach, out of mere detestation (hatred, disgust), on the night of their first wedding anniversary. According to the person who narrated what happened, the man has two wives -  Amina Maru (the accused) and her senior wife. Amina was allegedly not contented with the affair between her husband and his other wife...

"She’s always accusing her husband based on different assumptions and recently alleged that he bought a new car for his senior wife, who is a top civil servant. On the faithful day, he was meant to spend the night at the accused apartment, since he has two separate houses. Unfortunately for him, he was invited to an impromptu business meeting with a top government official in the state. The meeting was over-stretched and at a point, the accused contended that he went to her senior wife's home before coming to her. While he was sleeping in their bed later that night, She picked up a sharp knife and stabbed him in the stomach three times. Amina had been warning the victim to divorce her, saying if not, he’ll regret some atrocities. But he gave her threats a deaf ear. She finally carried out the attack on June 12 - the night of their 1st marriage anniversary."
The Accused - Amina has been arrested by the Police while the victim is currently receiving treatment in Gusau, Zamfara State.

FG Records N725bn Deficit In First Quarter

The Federal Government recorded a deficit of N725.18 billion in its fiscal operations in the first quarter of 2016, according to data released yesterday by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN. Nigeria also earned $1.02 billion from its non-oil exports during the period, and this represents an increase of 38.6 percent or $393.7 million (N78.7bn) over the amount earned in the same period of 2015.

The CBN, in its Economic Report for the First Quarter of 2016, attributed the deficit to an expenditure of N1.23 trillion, over retained earnings of N505.1 billion in the period under review. The deficit, the report said, was a result of a decline in oil and non-oil revenues and a rise in capital expenditure in the quarter under review.

The dip in oil earnings was attributed to a sharp drop in oil and gas export, low price of crude oil in the international market and the persistent disruption in petroleum export due to vandalism and production shut-ins.

According to the report, the estimated fiscal deficit of N725.18 billion indicated an increase of 178.6 percent above the 2015 provisional quarterly budget deficit of N260.25 billion. The CBN also stated that the Federal Government’s expenditure for the first quarter was 3.4 percent higher than the provisional quarterly budget estimate, but was below level in the fourth quarter of 2015 by 20.3 percent.

Specifically, breakdown of total expenditure showed that recurrent expenditure accounted for 72.8 percent of the total, while capital and statutory transfers accounted for 18 and 9.2 percent, respectively.

In the recurrent expenditure aspect, the report noted that non-debt component accounted for 72.7 percent, while debt service payments accounted for the balance of 27.3 percent. Using provisional data, CBN further stated that the Federal Government’s retained revenue for the first quarter of 2016, of N505.07 billion was below the receipts in the fourth quarter of 2015 by 37.5 percent.

Giving a breakdown of government’s total revenue, the report disclosed that Federation Account accounted for 81.6 percent of the total, while Independent Revenue, Value Added Tax, VAT, and others, comprising the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC’s Refund and Exchange Gain, accounted for 8.0, 5.6 and 4.8 percent, respectively.

N1.5bn Fraud: EFCC To Arraign Fani-kayode, Ex-minister For N1.5bn Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is set to arraign a former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode; a former Minister of Finance, Senator Nenadi Usman; a firm, Joint Trust Dimensions Limited; and one Jimoh Yusuf for an alleged N1.5bn fraud.
The anti-graft commission will on Wednesday arraign a former Senior Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Waripamowei Dudafa, for an alleged N1.6bn fraud.

An impeccable source at the anti-graft agency told our correspondent that Fani-Kayode, Usman and Yusuf would be charged with 17 counts bordering on money laundering and fraud.
The source added, “We have filed charges against Fani-Kayode, Usman, Yusuf and a company, Joint Trust Dimensions Limited. Yusuf was the signatory to the account of Joint Trust Dimensions Limited. They will be arraigned before a Federal High Court in Lagos this week.”
The EFCC had arrested Fani-Kayode and Usman for their role in the sharing of a N4bn campaign fund during the build-up to the 2015 presidential election.
The money was said to have emanated from the account of the Office of the National Security Adviser domiciled in the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The money was said to have been transferred to the account of JTDL and then distributed to some chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Usman, who was the Director of Finance of the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation, was alleged to have transferred N840m into the Zenith Bank account of Fani-Kayode with account number 1004735721, domiciled in Maitama, Abuja.
Fani-Kayode was said to have received the funds in three tranches.
The first tranche of the payment, involving N350m, hit the account on February 19, 2015. Another N250m was also paid into the account on February 19, 2015, while N240m was credited to the account a month later; precisely on March 19, 2015.
Apart from Fani-Kayode, others, who also received the funds, were the Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Chief Olu Falae (N100m); a former Governor of Imo State, Achike Udenwa; while a former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Viola Onwuliri, also got N350m in two tranches while Nenadi Usman took N36.9m.
A coalition of pro-Jonathan groups, headed by a former Special Adviser to the President on Political matters, Prof. Rufai Alkali, also received N320m.
The accounts of those accused of receiving funds have since been frozen by the EFCC.
Usman has returned about N23m to the EFCC while two of her properties in Abuja have been seized by the anti-graft agency.
Meanwhile, the EFCC is also set to arraign Dudafa, a former Senior Special Assistant on Domestic Affairs to Jonathan, for an alleged N1.6bn fraud.
Dudafa was arrested by the EFCC at the Lagos airport in April for his alleged role in the sharing of about N10bn to delegates at the PDP presidential primary in 2014, where Jonathan was the sole candidate.
A former Aide-de-Camp to Jonathan, Col. Ojogbane Adegbe, who was arrested in February for the same offence, has since been retired by the Nigerian Army.
It was learnt that Dudafa would be charged alongside one Iwejuo Nna, also known at various times as Taiwo Ebenezer and Olugbenga Isaiah.
They will be charged before Justice Mohammed Idris at a Federal High Court in Lagos.

The first count states that the accused persons on or about June 11, 2013, in Lagos, “allegedly conspired amongst themselves to conceal the sum of N1.667bn said to be the proceeds of crime.”
The offence is said to be contrary to Section 18(a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) (Amendment) Act, 2012 and punishable under Section 17(a) of the same Act.
In the other charges, Dudafa also allegedly used six companies – Seagate Property Development and Investment Limited, Avalon Global Property Development Company Limited, Ebiwise Resources, Pluto Property and Investment Company, Rotato Interlink Services and De Jakes Fast Food and Restaurant Nigeria Limited – to conceal varying sums of money between June, 2013, and April, 2016.
The EFCC has lined up 21 witnesses including representatives of some banks to testify against the defendants.

OLEH—THERE is tension in Idheze community, Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State, following an oil spill from a major Nigeria Agip Oil Company, NAOC pipeline, which wreaked havoc in the area.

The spillage which started at 12 midnight, resulted in a serious fire outbreak, destroying farmlands and economic crops in the community.

The cause of the spill was still hazy at press time as it could not be ascertained whether it was due to equipment failure or vandalism.

Speaking with Vanguard on the development, President General of the community, Mr. Samson Afeme said, “We woke up in the mid-night to see people running in different directions as a result of the spillage and because it was late in the night, the magnitude was very high. There was nothing we could do at that time.

“We didn’t even know the direction it was going, so we alerted Agip as well the fire fighters of the Isoko South council, but much could not be done until the dawn, but at that time, much harm had been done, but no life was lost.”

The information was obtained from the college website, posted on Monday.

In one of several letters conveying his choice for the various awards, the Commandant of the college, Maj.-Gen. William Rapp, described Mr. Nengite’s performance as “arguably one of the best in the international fellows programmes at the USAWC”.

Mr. Rapp also said at the graduation ceremony of the college that Nigeria should be proud of Mr. Nengite and his compatriot in the Masters of Strategic Studies class, Col. Timothy Shipi.

He said “Shipi performed brilliantly”.

The breakdown obtained from the school’s website indicated that at the graduation of the 2015 class, Col. Nengite bagged six awards for outstanding performance in different courses.

He earned the Distinguished Graduate award reserved for the top five fellows in his class of 381 and also the Commandant’s award for distinction in research.

Some of the prominent servicemen who had gone through USAWC in the past were President Muhammadu Buhari, Collin Powell, Dwight Eisenhower, George Patton and Norman Schwarzkopf.

Jonathan Denies Buying $15M Property In United Kingdom

NIGERIA'S Immediate-past President Goodluck Jonathan has denied owning a £15m property in the United Kingdom, which a former Editor of the UK SUN, Kelvin Mackenzie, had credited to the Nigerian leader in his weekly column on Saturday that Jonathan had bought a property in Surrey.

The former editor, who tried to play pun on Jonathan's name, said in the write-up, “I hear the aptly named Goodluck Jonathan, the former President of oil-rich Nigeria, has bought a 12,000 square foot house on the ultra-expensive and well protected St George’s Hill estate in Weybridge, Surrey.

“I’m sure he gained his wealth legitimately but these houses are £10-£15million a pop, so, perhaps the ex-President could explain where his money came from as he has been at the forefront of the fight against his country’s corruption. Surely, it can’t all have been good luck.”

In his reaction,  Jonathan, through his media aide, Mr. Ikechukwu Eze, denied the report and demanded a retraction from the newspaper.

A statement put out by the Nigerian immediate president  read in part, “Nothing could be further from the truth. Dr. Goodluck Jonathan takes pride in the fact that he does not have any property or accounts outside Nigeria. He stated this publicly while in office and his commitment to Nigeria’s economy remains total even after he left power.

“As the Nigerian President who signed the Freedom of Information bill into law, Dr. Jonathan is well aware that the United Kingdom is a nation with good record keeping at county and national levels and as such, it will not take a serious and responsible media long to verify ownership of property before rushing to the press with potentially libellous publications.

“It is hoped that this publication will correct its error and do a retraction and that other media will likewise follow up on this story to put the lie to the details it contains.”

Kachikwu Disagrees With Amaechi At FG Town Hall

The Minister of Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, has said President Muhammadu Buhari has not allocated a single oil block since he came into office.

Kachikwu said when the president eventually starts, South-south indigenes would have their share.

At a town hall meeting in Uyo, the Akwa-Ibom State capital, organised by the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, a Nigerian asked the minister why oil block allocations favoured the North rather than the South-south, where most oil blocks are located.

Answering, Kachikwu, said this was not the doing of President Buhari, emphasising that the president would follow due process in allocation of oil blocks when the time comes.

Kachikwu also disagreed with the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, on the establishment and maintenance of the Maritime University in Akwa-Ibom.

“I disagree with the minister of transport. Any facility in the South-south, we should work towards developing it, I don’t care the circumstance. It is not my business whether land was valued at 19 or 10 million,” he said responding to Amaechi’s claim that land for the university was valued at N13 billion.

“That has nothing to do with development of infrastructure. As far as I know, so much has already gone into that, so much fiscal asset has been developed. We are not going to throw away the baby and the bath water.

“We’ll deal with the issues but the university will be developed. If he (Amaechi) doesn’t want it in maritime, I will take it in Petroleum.

“On the issue of negotiations, again I disagree with him. There’s no theatre in the world where conflicts are being resolved through battle. It doesn’t matter who’s right, who’s wrong.”

Naira Dips Against Dollar

The Naira on Monday dipped against the dollar at the parallel market, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

The Nigerian currency shed N8 to exchange at N360 to the dollar, from N352 it traded on Friday.

Also, the Pound Sterling and the Euro traded at N515 and N405 respectively.

Meanwhile, the official Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) rate remained at N197 to a dollar.

Traders at the market attributed the unstable nature of the Naira to the scarcity of the greenback and hoarding of foreign exchange by currency speculators. (NAN)

NUC: Post-utme Cancellation Does Not Stop Screening

The Public Relations officer of the Nigerian Universities Commission, Ibrahim Yakasai, has announced that the new directive scrapping Post-UTME does not hinder universities from screening students sent to them for admission by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB.

The Federal Government in the past week ordered that the examinations usually organised by universities in Nigeria for admission seekers after the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations should be scrapped.

According to the government, “If there was absolute confidence in the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, there should be no need for Universities to conduct internal examinations to determine the fate of candidates seeking admissions.”

While addressing newsmen, Yakasai said the new directive does not restrict any university from screening students sent to them by the exams board.

The usual practice was that during admission, universities and other schools are allowed to do elementary screening. The screening include actual verification of Jamb slip, crosschecking of documents for admission, medical test, age check and a host of other prerequisite for securing of admission.

"I Was Scared Of Abortion": Anna Banner Reveals As She Finally Breaks Up With Flavour

In this interview Anna Banner opens up to Stella Dimoko Korkus about her relationship with Flavour and her decision to be free and move on...

Anna you went on a rant on Saturday and your posted meme suggested your relationship with the father of your child is troubled. Wanna talk about it?

First of all,Flavour and I are no longer together. Secondly,my post has/had nothing to do with flavour. It was just a beautiful write up that made sense to me and i decided to share it with my fans.

(Eyes widened sharp sharp)
You and flavour are no longer together? When did this happen and why? Pardon my asking.

Yes we are no longer together. I made this decision recently. I spoke to myself and decided it was time to move on and focus on my future and career.

Did you convey your decision to him? what was his reaction?

Yes i did.. we are both cool with it.

So Anna why did you decide to become a baby mama when you are so young and have a bright future ahead of you?

I never decided to become a baby mama ,I just fell in love. I fell in love and got pregnant unexpectedly for the man I loved. I had never gotten pregnant before and i was scared of abortion.

I decided to keep my baby no matter what ,i never tried to hold a man down or force marriage on anyone with my pregnancy. You know in life, the hardest decisions always turn out beautiful. I don't regret keeping my baby one bit. She is my greatest achievement in life so far. I fall in love with her every second of the day.

Okay let me ask another question. You knew Sandra Okagbue and Flavour were a couple and that she was even pregnant for him. Why did you nosedive into the relationship with him knowing all these?

I never knew flavour was with another woman while we were dating. We started dating way before 'Golibe was composed'. He never mentioned/admitted he had any relationship ties with anyone even after rumour had it that he was dating someone else and she was even pregnant for him. I believed him.

I confronted him again when i heard she had put to bed and it seemed true. He accepted after much talk but unfortunately i was already pregnant ,never knew i was pregnant until i was one month gone. What was i supposed to do? Take out my precious child? Hell no.I believe God sent her to me for a reason.

So you see, it was never my intention to break anybody's relationship or come in between two lovers. I just never knew. For those of you out there judging and persecuting me for something you know nothing about ,let me ask,Are you better than i am?Is it okay by God for you to Judge me when he has forgiven me all my sins?.

I made an adult decision at a young age and i am so proud of myself for keeping my baby. People always say i am competing/fighting with someone all because of a man . Really? Fighting and competing? Thats too much energy. Seeking for a man's attention is never/ has never been my thing! I'm not done seeking for God and my daughter's attention.

People always refer to me as "husband snatcher" but please, that is not the case. Many of have been victims of love and i am sure we all know that when a woman is deeply in love, she believes everything her man tells her.
I am not a husband snatcher,i was just naive of a lot of things and everyday i ask God to give me wisdom to see well and make the right choices.

Is there some kind of competition between you and Sandra? I noticed the posts on your social media handles kinda suggest that? Has there ever been a confrontation between you two? Please pardon my many questions but I have so many to ask...

No I am not in competition with anyone Stella and no there has been no confrontation and i dont see that happening.

You say you and flavour have broken up, are you both still friends for the sake of the child you have together?

I and flavour are still very good friends. Chinedu is a very nice person with a big heart. We talk about almost everything. I respect him a lot because he is a good person. He has been an awesome father to his child and i respect him for that. He goes extra length to make his daughter happy. He has a beautiful soul.

What are your plans now for the Future?Do you plan to further your Education?

Yes,I plan to go back to School and I plan on a whole lot of things.I wont say my getting pregnant put a set back in my plans because My baby is the best thing that ever happened to me but i have plans to return to school soon.
The future is bright for me...

Do you have any regrets whatsoever?

None whatsoever....God has been Faithful.

Are you a happy person?
Its a 50/50 situation. Most of the times,i am happy, most of the time i am not. Most times i have a lot on my mind and most times i am very happy..I think about what i should have done, what i could have done, what i didnt do right and what i should do right. Its not a permanent feeling and i will be fine.

Thank you for answering all my questions Anna .This interview might go viral and i cannot assure you of what peoples reaction will be but whatever it is ,I pray God gives you the strength to carry on.

Thank you Stella. My mind is free...Love is pain but there is a limit to pain and i choose to walk free.thank you and have a good week.

He started by beating his wife but turned to his daughter when she used a stone to hit him to get him to stop beating her mum. Every other person, including able-bodied men just stood there and watched as he attacked two women with a cutlass. How sad! See more photos below...
